Marketplace’s This Is Uncomfortable is coming to Pasadena for a live taping of the show on September 21. It’ll be part podcast recording, part live music performance, and part financial confessional. Host Reema Khrais (she/her) will record a live edition of the podcast, featuring stories of the unanticipated ways money affects relationships, shapes identities and often defines what it means to be an adult. Afterwards, she’ll talk music, money and life with musician Maral (she/her), who will also perform live. And we’re looking for some real talk on money from you. Step into our confession booth (an actual recording booth in our Mohn Broadcast Center) and tell us your darkest financial secrets. We promise not to tell!* Confession booths (and the bar) open at 6:00 p.m., so arrive early to grab drink and start talking.

*We actually will tell. Confessions will be recorded for the podcast!

This Is Uncomfortable is produced and distributed by American Public Radio. It can be heard wherever you listen to podcasts.

This event is part of KPCC’s Public Radio Palooza, a year-long celebration of all the ways public radio brings us together, featuring some of the most legendary and innovative creators in the public media landscape.

This Is Uncomfortable is a show about life and how money messes with it. Each week, Reema Khrais digs in with stories about the unanticipated ways money affects relationships, shapes identities and often defines what it means to be an adult. Khrais dives into uncomfortable topics like friends borrowing money, relationships and the other varied ways money shapes who we are. Khrais’ career has included a two-year position as a Fletcher Fellow focused on education policy reporting. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication, where she earned a degree in electronic communication and political science. Join Reema as she cuts through the uncomfortable to get to the root of how money plagues us. Produced and distributed by American Public Media, you can find This Is Uncomfortable wherever you get your podcasts.

From Resident Advisor
Los Angeles’s Maral has spent the past half-decade quietly honing an approach that meshes the latest in club music contortions, a range of pulverized dub effects, and samples from her library of Iranian folk, pop and classical music. Focusing on the interplay between sounds and culture she combines Iranian folk field recordings with raw distorted beats, hoping it will introduce listeners to new ways of perceiving music. Taking the old and making it new. As a DJ, she enjoys exploring music from around the world and showcasing the hidden gems from the past and present. Through her music and involvement in the scene, Maral seeks to both educate and have a positive impact on others.
