'Transparent' Takes A Bow

When the series “Transparent” premiered on Amazon in 2014, it occupied a unique and groundbreaking place on the growing streaming landscape. In it, veteran actor Jeffrey Tambor played Maura, a trans woman coming out to her family late in life, including her three grown children. The cast and crew included women, trans, and nonbinary people — though the show received some criticism for not casting a trans woman as Maura. But shortly after the release of its fourth season in 2017, Tambor was accused of sexual harassment by two women who worked on the series. And after an internal investigation was completed, Tambor was officially dropped from the show in early 2018. Now, “Transparent” returns to end what it began in what creator Jill Soloway calls a “Musicale Finale.” Soloway visited The Frame to talk about what it was like to return to the show without its lead actor, the lessons learned from the original casting, and what’s next for the show.

The Next Generation Of Film Composers

Every year, a group of tomorrow’s Hans Zimmers and Nicholas Britells head up to Skywalker Ranch in Northern California for a lab that pairs film composers with indie directors for two weeks of concentrated collaboration. The Frame contributor Tim Greiving drove upstate for the last day of the Sundance Institute's Film Music and Sound Design Lab.
