“Nico 1988,” the biopic about the German model and singer, is anything but glorifying. The film follows Nico — the one-time singer for The Velvet Underground — on what would be her final tour as she struggles with drug addiction and memories of her childhood in post-war Berlin. Through faithful interpretations of her music and stark cinematography, the film is a reminder of how prolific, and yet misunderstood, Nico was in her final years. Danish actress and musician Trine Dyrholm spoke with The Frame about her uncanny impression of Nico’s deep voice and the challenges of playing the complex icon.
