LAUSD Emergency Powers
In March, the LA Unified School District board voted to give Supt. Austin Beutner emergency powers to deal with the coronavirus outbreak -- and Beutner has moved aggressively under that authority, instituting new programs to provide computers and Internet access to students, distribute grab-and-go meals, and bring on new vendors to provide services, all without prior approval from the board. According to county documents, LAUSD emergency spending so far totals more than $210 million.
