Homeless Committee Meeting, AB5, CA GOP Recap
We look at what solutions were proposed during the first meeting of Governor Newsom's Homelessness Task Force. Plus, the fate of AB5. And, what happened at the California GOP meeting over the weekend.
CA Homelessness Task Force Meeting
The state task force on homelessness just wrapped up its first meeting on Friday. Its members are a collection of local politicians and experts in the field. And their goal is to address a problem that isn't only in Southern California but all over the state.

AB5 and Dynamex
A bill making its way through the California legislature could threaten millions of gig economy workers — or protect them. Industries such as Uber and Lyft are lobbying for exemptions from AB5 which would legislate that independent contract workers be covered under traditional labor laws. From Capitol Public Radio, Randol White has the story.
Uber as Safety Net
For some, driving for Uber and Lyft is a full-time job. For others, it's evolved into a kind of “alternative safety net” for workers who are looking for — but struggling to find — a more traditional job. But is the “safety net” of driving under threat from new legislation that aims to turn independent contracting gig economy jobs into more traditional employee positions?

Several Democratic candidates have showcased their ability to speak Spanish. While some might see this as a considerate effort to be inclusive of the diverse electorate, others might consider it pandering.
The four-year-old mountain lion known as P-61 was hit by a car and killed on the 405 freeway this past Saturday. Earlier this summer, the cougar made news when he safely crossed from one side of that freeway to the other. He was the first mountain lion with a tracking collar to successfully cross the highway. The death highlights the challenges wild felines face in Southern California.
