Newsom revised budget
The state budget was unveiled this morning by Governor Gavin Newsom in Sacramento. The latest proposal has swollen since January, topping out now at about $213 billion dollars.

Early childhood education
Governor Newsom spent almost nine minutes of his presentation this morning talking about his "parent’s agenda" and investments in early childhood. In his January budget, he proposed nearly $2 billion dollars in funding for everything from preschool slots, to training for child care providers and supports for new parents. Thursday, he fine-tuned some of those investments.

Catholic Church sex abuse rules
Just last week, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra announced a review of how the LA Archdiocese has handled allegations over the last two decades. For many victims, here and all over the world, it's felt like Rome has been…at best aloof or at worst complicit. Progressive Asian Christians
California is home to hundreds of churches started by Asian American immigrants. But their anti-gay stance and silence on racial justice issues has turned off younger members who leave, or switch to progressive churches which tend to be predominantly white. But those churches aren't a great fit either. One Asian American Christian told me he was complimented for reading scripture without an accent. So now these progressive Asian American Christians have created their own space -- online and IRL. KPCC’s Josie Huang has the story.

San Bernardino Homeless
Homelessness in San Bernardino County jumped by nearly 25 percent from 2018 to 2019. In response, the county has issued over $9 million in grants to local organizations to address this rise.

In Los Angeles County, seniors are the fastest-growing part of the homeless population.
