Early childhood education

Governor Newsom spent almost nine minutes of his presentation this morning talking about his "parent’s agenda" and investments in early childhood. In his January budget, he proposed nearly $2 billion dollars in funding for everything from preschool slots, to training for child care providers and supports for new parents. Catholic Church sex abuse rules

Just last week, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra announced a review of how the LA Archdiocese has handled allegations over the last two decades. For many victims, here and all over the world, it's felt like Rome has been…at best aloof or at worst complicit. Well, this morning Pope Francis released new Vatican laws on how clergy around the world will handle abuse allegations and cover-ups going forward. A Martinez speaks with

  • Patrick J. Wall, a former priest and now a victim advocate at Jeff Anderson and Associates in L.A. for these developments.

Progressive Asian Christians

California is home to hundreds of churches started by Asian American immigrants. But their anti-gay stance and silence on racial justice issues has turned off younger members who leave, or switch to progressive churches which tend to be predominantly white. But those churches aren't a great fit either. One Asian American Christian told me he was complimented for reading scripture without an accent. So now these progressive Asian American Christians have created their own space -- online and IRL. KPCC’s Josie Huang has the story.

Star Wars Galaxy's Edge crowd control

San Bernardino Homeless

Homelessness in San Bernardino County jumped by nearly 25 percent from 2018 to 2019. In response, the county has issued over $9 million in grants to local organizations to address this rise.

Senior Homeless

Thin social security checks, little retirement savings and a lack of affordable housing are forcing some California seniors onto the streets. In Los Angeles County, seniors are the fastest-growing part of the homeless population. As part of our series "Graying California," Amita Sharma from KPBS spent the day with a 71-year-old man who lives on San Diego's sidewalks.

Tell Them I am

It is the fourth day of Ramadan, and this month, as a way to recognize this celebration of the Muslim faith, KPCC launched a new podcast called Tell Them I Am, profiling 22 very different people who just happen to be Muslim.
