Food waste is a huge problem in this country. On average, Americans waste about 40 percent of the food we produce, including the produce supermarkets throw out for cosmetic reasons. One of the event's panelists, Robert Egger, is former head of DC Central Kitchen, a community kitchen that recycles unserved food. He's about to open a new venture called LA Kitchen.
