Voters in the L.A. Unified School District will decide in June whether to raise their own taxes to generate new revenues for the district. This week, school board members unveiled a plan for an independent panel that would oversee how LAUSD spends the new funding if Measure EE -- which would raise an estimated $500 million annually from a 16-cent-per-square foot parcel tax on property owners -- get the two-thirds vote it needs to pass.
