Live Nation announced Thursday that they were canceling HARD Presents... A Night at Fairplex, an electronic dance music (EDM) festival that was to take place in September. The announcement came from the office of Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis in wake of the deaths of teenagers Tracy Nguyen and Katie Dix at the Hard Summer Festival in early August.
It is suspected that the teens may have used drugs. Three days after the deaths, Solis and Supervisor Michael Antonovich organized a motion that temporarily canceled EDM festivals in the county.
An additional festival scheduled in late October was not canceled, but was significantly altered. A statement said both Live Nation and the Fair Association agreed to new conditions for that event:
The statement suggested the future of EDM festivals in L.A. County was not certain.
"We continue to study this issue and the propriety of continuing to hold such events on County property. We are considering additional health and safety measures, " the statement said.
