Wind and surf advisories were in effect as the first of a pair of heavy winter storms was expected to hit the Los Angeles region Wednesday; we've got a full list of all alerts and advisories below.

The National Weather Service reports stormy weather and significant rainfall are expected through Saturday, with high surf starting Wednesday and dangerous rip currents possible as early as Thursday and extending through the weekend.

Winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 45 mph were expected through Thursday afternoon.

L.A. and Oxnard face a 30 percent chance of rain after 4 p.m. Wednesday, increasing to 80 percent after 10 p.m.

Local authorities have warned residents near recent burn areas to prepare for the possibility of mud and debris flows.

The rain could let up briefly after Thursday morning but is expected to pick up again by Thursday night, turning into a possible thunderstorm on Friday.
