Update 6:44 p.m.: Student fired motorcycle-mounted assault rifle

At a press conference Wednesday evening, Chino police said three students were injured when a fellow student fired an assault rifle that was mounted on a motorcycle for display purposes. 

The L.A. Times reports a Chino police spokeswoman said the AR-15 assault rifle had been  part of an anti-drug demonstration at Newman Elementary School.

Three students were injured, none by bullets. 

Update 6:03 p.m.: 3 students hurt when officer's gun misfires at safety demo

Three elementary school students in Chino were hurt Wednesday when an officer's gun misfired during a safety demonstration, NBC4 reports.

Three students were examined at the scene and one went home with a parent, while the other two were taken to a local hospital, CBS2 reports. The students suffered only minor injuries. 

Officers were at Newman Elementary School for Red Ribbon Week, a national effort to deter drug use among children and teens, according to the Los Angeles Times. The incident reportedly happened around 11:15 a.m.

Tamrin Olden, crime prevention supervisor for the Chino Police Department, told NBC4 the accident occurred late Wednesday morning at Newman Elementary School.
