A decision could be made next week on whether the Crenshaw-LAX light rail project will include a Leimert Park station.
L.A. County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas wants the Los Angeles County Metro Transportation Authority to build a subway stop in the historic South L.A. neighborhood.
Ridley-Thomas, who sits on the Metro board, said leaders will likely take up the issue on May 3, when agency planners recommend a contractor for the subway project.
"The Crenshaw to LAX light rail line is $1.7 billion," said Ridley-Thomas. "How much more it will cost to have a station at Leimert Park is yet to be determined. That's why we anxiously await the bid recommended for the board's consideration."
Two years ago, Metro board members voted to build a Leimert Park subway station only if it could fit within the existing billion dollar budget.
The proposed Metro Crenshaw/LAX light rail project would extend 8.5 miles to a station near the airport. Plans include six stations along the route. Leimert Park is one of the optional choices.
