In conversations across the country, NPR Presents: Michel Martin ‘Going There’ strips away sensationalism to tackle real and often painful conversations about the issues affecting peoples’ lives. From the stage, NPR host Michel Martin engages  in civil discourse and connects people with different perspectives, histories and experiences to share ideas, hopes, frustrations and solutions.

On June 24, Michel comes to the Los Angeles Theatre Center for what could be her most powerful and important conversation yet: “Street and Beats: Personal stories of cops and community from across L.A." When a force of civic authority operates around conflict, and the threat of violence is always a possibility, how can communities and law enforcement move beyond hostility and find common ground? Michel will bring together voices from different backgrounds and experiences—former gang members, artists, clergy and law enforcement—to break through misconceptions, move beyond public posturing and push open the lines of communication in this dynamic live event.
