Meet Kevin de León: A Virtual Event With An LA Mayoral Candidate
The primary election for the next mayor of Los Angeles is just a few weeks away. To help get you ballot-ready, KPCC host Austin Cross (he/him) is sitting down with the candidates for a series of one-on-one interviews — and asking them your top questions.
Kevin de León (he/him) sits on the Los Angeles City Council where since 2020 he has represented the 14th District, which includes Boyle Heights, Northeast L.A. and downtown. He served in the State Assembly from 2006-2010 and the State Senate from 2010-2018, where he was elected President pro Tem in 2014. He made an unsuccessful run for the U.S. Senate against Dianne Feinstein in 2018. De León is a former labor organizer with the California Teachers Association and the National Education Association. He was born in L.A. and is 55 years old.
Note: The determination for candidate participation in this series was based on results of a February poll conducted by the Los Angeles Times and required a 3% threshold. Several people on the ballot had not yet announced their candidacies. A more recent Times poll can be found here. All candidates with active campaigns will be invited to participate in our interactive Meet Your Mayor questionnaire.
This coverage was made possible through support by the Committee for Greater LA in partnership with the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation and the Weingart Foundation.
