How do college administrators protect free speech while also ensuring a safe environment in which students can learn and thrive? It’s no easy task, especially when you consider today's divisive politics. Has the increased use of social media affected the way we understand speech rights in the real world? How do Facebook and Twitter’s policies about speech differ from the First Amendment’s broad protections for extreme and even hateful speech?

Join KPCC’s Adolfo Guzman Lopez and the First Amendment Coalition’s David Snyder on Wednesday, April 18, at the University of California, Irvine, for a conversation on free speech and social media on our campuses and in our communities.

Guests:

David Snyder – executive director, First Amendment Coalition
Remaya M. Campbell – University of Southern California, class of 2018
Samantha Harris – vice president of policy research, Foundation for Individual Rights in Education
Safiya Umoja Noble – assistant professor at USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism
