Labor Day weekend: Where to find a public pool that's still open in Los Angeles

Sometimes, hiding away in an air-conditioned room or jumping in the shower real quick just isn't enough to combat the heat. And although the idea of a public pool might be off-putting to some, this weekend might get too hot for anybody to care.

Every Angeleno knows September can be one of the most scorching times of the year. Normally, all public pools in Los Angeles County are closed by then. Thankfully, the public pool gods have spoken, making it possible to get a couple more swims in.  The Los Angeles City Council voted Wednesday to keep some pools, including ones at Pan Pacific Park and Griffith Park, open on weekends through Oct. 1.

If you don't live in those areas, don't break out that water hose just yet — the city Department of Parks and Recreation is keeping some other pools open until Sept. 5, just in time for Labor Day weekend, while others are open year-round.

And even if you don't know how to swim, you still have a chance to cool down at splash pads throughout the Southland.
