Vin Scully Avenue? Councilmember wants to rename Elysian Park Avenue

It may be Vin Scully's last year as announcer for the L.A. Dodgers but fans could get a bittersweet reminder of his time with the team once he's gone.

Council member Gil Cedillo introduced a motion Tuesday that would rename a short stretch of Elysian Park Avenue in Scully's honor. The two blocks from Sunset Boulevard to Stadium Way lead to Dodger Stadium. If approved, they would be renamed Vin Scully Avenue. A similar idea was floated by the mayor a few years back.

Scully has been with the Dodgers since their Brooklyn days. His 66 seasons with the team is the longest any broadcaster has been with one outfit in professional sports history. Council member Cedillo recognized Scully's talent in his motion Tuesday.

If the motion is approved by the rest of the L.A. City Council, the city's engineer will begin the process of changing its name.

What do you think? Should we rename the street in his honor?
