The National Weather Service upgraded a high wind watch for Southern California to a high wind warning Friday.
Powerful wind gusts are expected in the mountains and some valleys of Los Angeles and Ventura County, NWS meteorologist Scott Sukup said.
"Up in the mountains we're looking at 60 to 70 mile per hour gusts from late tonight through most of the day tomorrow," Sukup said. "And then for the valley areas like the western part of the San Fernando Valley, it could be some 40 to 50 mile per hour gusts."
In Riverside County, gusts could reach 65 miles per hour in areas below passes and canyons.
The wind could cause some damage, especially in the mountain areas where there is the possibility of downed trees, Sukup said. In the valley areas, there could be localized power outages.
The high wind warning is expected to last through 10 p.m. Saturday with the possibility of some wind advisories continuing into Sunday.
