Ventura police have arrested a father in the stabbing death of his 1-year-old boy, the Ventura County Star reports. The boy's death was reported Friday morning; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The child's father, Adrian Navarrete-Gonzalez, 28, called the police at 1:45 a.m to inform authorities that the boy was dead, NBC L.A. reports.

Ventura County police found the child with a stab wound on his body, according to reports. Authorities also found stab wounds on the father's chest. It is not clear if the wounds were self-inflicted. Navarrete-Gonzalez was taken to the hospital and treated for his wounds.

Commander Darin Schindler of the Ventura County Police told the Ventura County Star that Navarrete-Gonzalez is the only suspect at this point.

Eight other people were in the home during the time of the crime,but Navarrete-Gonzalez is believed to be the only person in the house related to the boy, according to the Ventura County Star. Navarrete-Gonzalez shared custody of the child as he and the boy's mother had recently separated.
