A winter storm has brought showers to Central and Southern California and snow in the mountains, with heavier rain on the way.
The National Weather Service says Central and Southern California received a few sprinkles overnight. There are scattered reports of traffic accidents as Southern California heads to work and school Thursday morning, but no reports of serious injuries.
Highs Thursday will be in the 50s and 60s.
Scattered showers will spread as a colder, stronger low-pressure area sweeps through the area Thursday afternoon through Friday, bringing a chance of thunderstorms, heavy downpours and even hail. The forecast calls for a 90 percent chance of rain Thursday night into Friday.
The second storm could bring a quarter to a half-inch of rain overnight and Friday, with up to an inch in the mountains. Several more inches of snow could affect mountain passes, including the Grapevine area of Interstate 5 north of Los Angeles, which frequently closes due to inclement weather .
Portions of Angeles Forest Highway and Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road in the Angeles National Forest are expected to be closed down Thursday afternoon because of the possibility of snow and icy road conditions.
